Consider the two images on this page. They are both the same tree, and both perspectives hold their own beauty, but if we rushed by, we would never get to appreciate the colour, texture and complexity of the bark. In modern life, we are often consumed by deadlines, pressure, and overstimulation. Forest therapy invites us to take the opportunity to appreciate the detail of nature in a way that speaks to our deepest instincts, and stimulates neglected areas of our brain. This has been shown to improve cognitive function and reduce anxiety.
